MICRONEEDLING AFTERCARE (pdf)
DownloadMicroneedling is a cosmetic procedure. It involves pricking the skin with tiny sterilized needles. The small wounds cause your body to make more collagen and elastin, which heal your skin and help you look younger.
You might also hear it called collagen induction therapy.
Microneedling Benefits
Microneedling may help with issues like:
* Acne
* Hair loss (also called alopecia)
* Dark spots or patches on your skin (hyperpigmentation)
* Large pores
* Reduced skin elasticity
* Scars
* Stretch marks
* Sun damage
* Fine lines and wrinkles
The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes, depending on how big the area is.
Most people need 4-6 treatments to see a difference.
First, you’ll get a numbing cream smoothed onto your face so you can’t feel the needle pricks. Then we move a pen-shaped with tiny needles around your face.
The needles make small cuts in your skin, which causes a bit of bleeding. Then we spread a cream or serum on your face afterwards.
The goal of the procedure is to start your body’s healing process by sending collagen and elastin to patch up the tiny injuries.
Collagen helps fill in and smooth out wrinkles.

When you come in for your skin rejuvenation appointment, you will be led to our comfortable private treatment area to begin your session.
After cleansing the skin, we will apply numbing cream for about 10 minutes to reduce any discomfort.
Then an advanced microneedling handpiece will be used that passes gently and evenly over the treatment areas.
Most patients will receive a 30 minute treatment consisting of needle penetration , based on the condition of the skin and type of treatment received. After microneedling, we use a lavander jelly mask to calm and soothe the skin and make the serum used penetrate even deeper.
We will also massage a moisturize with sunscreen into your complexion, since your skin will be more sensitive after the session
Whether you choose microneedling for acne scars or other skin issues, you will notice that the skin appears bright and red following your session. For this reason, we do not recommend planning any significant events right after your appointment. Downtime varies from person to person, but generally, you may experience mild redness and mild swelling for about 2-3 days after your microneedling treatment. We recommend 3 treatments spaced 1 month apart to see visible improvements, as the body requires time to produce new collagen and elastin. Results will continue to improve for a few months as the collagen remodels. Ask your skin care specialist about planning maintenance treatments, scheduled every 4 – 6 weeks for the most optimal results.
Patients typically feel some mild discomfort during their microneedling sessions, but it is not considered painful. Numbing cream and local anesthesia are used before the treatment begins.
To ensure proper healing, we encourage patients to observe the following instructions for at least 24 hours after treatment.
HOME CARE
1. Try to leave the serum on until the next morning. The following day wash your face with gentle cleanser using your fingers only. Do NOT scrub. Cleanse treated areas twice per day.
2. Cold compresses may be applied for comfort.
3. You can use antihistamines if itchiness is an issue.
4. Avoid saunas, steam rooms and hot showers until redness is gone.
5. Continue to avoid sun exposure and apply a sunblock with a minimum of 30 SPF prior to any exposure for at least 2 weeks after the treatment.
6. After 7 days patients can return to regular skin care products.
7. Avoid waxing, facials, botox or other skin care treatments for two weeks. 8. New cell regeneration requires at least 6-8 glasses of water a day.
Patients of any skin type are candidates for treatment as long as you do not have any active infections or lesions. Candidates should be prepared to wait 1 – 2 months after the initial four treatments before seeing results, since it takes time for new collagen and elastin to produce a noticeable difference in your skin. While microneedling treatment is safe and effective, it is not recommended for pregnant women or individuals using certain acne medications.
