Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are derived from neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species.

It prevents the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from axon endings at the neuromuscular junction.

In cosmetic applications, botulinum toxin is considered safe and effective for reduction of facial wrinkles, especially in the uppermost third of the face.

The effects of anti-wrinkle injections last two to four months and in some cases, product-dependent, with some patients experiencing a longer duration of effect.

Injections into the muscles under facial wrinkles causes relaxation of those muscles, resulting in the smoothing of the overlying skin.

Smoothing of wrinkles is usually visible three to five days after injection, with maximum effect typically a week following injection.

Muscles can be treated repeatedly to maintain the smoothed appearance.

Any injection can hurt, but the needles used for anti-wrinkle injections injections are very small, so pain is usually minimal.

People easily get these two types of injectables confused all the time, but here’s an easy way to distinguish between the two: Anti-wrinkle injections is for limiting muscle movement, fillers are for building volume.

Anti-wrinkle injections reduces the activity of muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. Facial fillers, however, fill the trouble areas with a gel made up of hyaluronic acid, which helps to plump and lift the skin to replace volume loss.

Explained simply, when injected directly into the muscle, anti-wrinkle injections blocks the muscle’s nerve signals and temporarily relaxes it. When the muscle is relaxed, dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement soften, dissipate, or disappear completely.

Downtime is very minimal. Most patients resume work and the rest of their regular activities almost immediately after treatment.

Results usually appear within 7 to 14 days of treatment.
