Aqualyx is an injectable fat loss treatment.
It is a gel-based solution, derived from cholanic acid, which is produced by our bile duct to help up break down fats.
It is licensed for use in the UK for localised or spot removal of fat from areas such as the chin, knees, hips, arms, stomach, thighs or under the buttocks and is generally regarded as safe.
It is not a weight loss solution and is suitable for smaller, stubborn pockets of fat, not large area fat reduction.
This solution was developed by Professor Pasquale Motolese, president of the Italian Society of Aesthetics and Medicine, and has been in use since 2009.
How does it work?
Aqualyx is a non-surgical way of body-shaping. This gel-based solution is injected into areas of unwanted fat.
The solution works by disrupting the surface of the fat cells, causing them to weaken and become permeable.
The fat is then absorbed by the body and excreted. It is a permanent result assuming the person having the treatment doesn’t gain weight after the treatment.
A reduction in fat deposits can usually be seen after just one treatment, however between three and eight sessions are required to see the optimal effect. The speed at which results are seen will vary depending on the stability of the cell membranes, consumption of water, lifestyle and metabolism.
It is suitable for patients who do not want the more invasive liposuction or laser lipo treatments, who do not have large amounts of fat to remove and who are over 18 years and under 60 years of age. The treatment is not suitable for pregnant or lactating women or those with a pathological condition.
No, Aqualyx® and Aqualysis are aimed at reducing stubborn pockets of fat.
Minimal side effects have been reported globally since its introduction, but patients can expect a little skin irritation, bruising and oedema
During the Aqualyx treatment, an anaesthetic is normally mixed into the solution prior to the injection thus providing greater comfort and a fairly pain-free procedure. As with all treatments that involve needles, the injections may sting for a few seconds but overall, it is a well-taken treatment.
Yes, results with Aqualyx® are long-lasting. The treatment destroys localised body fat cells for good. However, note that it won’t stop you from storing new fat in the future. The remaining fat cells can grow with weight gain, so we always stress the importance of following a healthy lifestyle in order to maintain a stable weight following treatment.
Aqualyx is designed to be used locally and the injections are effective in treating almost all small deposits of fat. The most popular treatment areas are on the chin, thigh, hips, arms, stomach and lower abdomen, “man-boobs” and knees.
Aqualyx is used to treat pockets of fat which are challenging to remove via exercise and diet alone, thus it is important to note that it is not a weight loss solution. The Injections work by dissolving localised fat but the added bonus is that this procedure achieves tightening your skin from the inside too. Hence, the bulges that bother you start going down and eventually can disappear and your skin becomes smoother. And the results look natural and are long-lasting. Please note that results vary between individuals.
